Want to create a blog but don’t know where? Then I shall recommend you to use WordPress. There’s two kind of WordPress, WordPress[dot]com and WordPress[dot]org. WordPress[dot]com is a free-for-all blog host, so you don’t have to pay if you want to create new account, recommended for newbie. WordPress[dot]org is for those who expert in blogging and the pay version of WP. It’s have many similarity with WP.com, but it templates can be personalized. You also have to learn some HTML tags if you want to use this one.
This time, I just give a preview of WordPress[dot]com. It’s a quick-update blog host and used by many blogger arround the world. It’s communities grow bigger each day as there’re more people join to WP. So, do you really want to join the community as well?
There’re many reasons for you to choose WordPress. WordPress provided all-installed features so you don’t have to search all over the web only to put a calendar or your blogstats in your side menu. It also installed an anti-SPAM third party, Akismet, so your blog is safer from that junk SPAM. Many of the major blog community now also using a WordPress engine for their blogs. But, there is one big reason why I recommend you to use WordPress[dot]com. Today, it’s provide 3 GB storage space. An enormous amount for a free blog hosting. Much bigger compared with another famous blog host, Blogger or Multiply.
Okay, how to create an account in WP? First you must have an e-mail account. Must the valid e-mail address. This is very important, because ALL comments in your blog will be redirected to your e-mail. You’ll also need it whenever you forgot your WP password. Just click on the “Lost Password” sentence, a message which contain your WP password will be sent immediately to your e-mail address. If you don’t have any e-mail account, you should get a new one in Yahoo!Mail or Gmail. When your e-mail account is set up, we’re ready for the next step.
Here, you have to go to WordPress[dot]com site. Just click sign up, fill in the required form such as WP username and password, password confirmation, e-mail address, and make sure you’ve read the ToS (Terms of Service). At the end of the form, there’s two choices, “Just a username, please” and “Gimme a blog!”.
If you choose just a username, you can create your blog domain (your blog address) in different name instead of using your account name as domain. This made your blog more dependable, but take more time in creating a new blog (say, about 2 minutes). Then, you have to go back to WP[dot]com main page (don’t worry, your account has automatically logged in), which you have to click “Register a Blog” to create a new blog.
In the next page, you’ll asked to fill some form about your blog. Here’s the quick guide: Blog domain means your blog address at your browser address bar (like “yourblog.wordpress.com”); Blog Title means your blog identity at your browser (like “Your Blog – Internet Explorer”); Language means in what language your blog contents primarily written in, choose whether your blog will appear in the search engine (like Google, Technorati, Yahoo!Search, etc.) or not, whether your blog contain adult contents or not, and some other things. After you fill all the required field, just click “Create Blog” (this time, only this choice given). And whoosh! Your new blog is now created.
If you choose the other one (Gimme a Blog), your WP account will be used as your blog domain. This made your blog more insecure, but it takes less time when you want to create your first blog. Simply choose “Gimme a blog”, then click the button below. Your blog is now yours in just a few step.
Congratulations, now you have a WP blog and be the part of WordPress community.
